Hello, this is the Statistics and Modeling Enterprise.

Statistics is the philosophy of maths. It extends beyond mere calculations and computations, but rather interprets the implications behind numbers. For instance, when there was a spike of the number that “she” was used in literature, we can infer the period to have experienced an increase in women’s rights. It is computation that allows us to know the “number,” but it is statistics that allows us to see the real meaning of the number. Statistics is not only about problem-solving or calculations. It is about our society, its problems, and its solutions.

With the spectre of automation looming over us, what is more important than the best problem-solver is the best thinker, as thinking is irreplaceable by machines. To see the flip-side of numbers and deduce the socioeconomic implications of them is an ability that is increasingly crucial in the 21st century. In such an era, our enterprise aims to foster statistical thinking among members, and raise awareness about statistics and modeling among the whole student body.
